Gooseberries, known as Amla in Hindi, are small and nutritious fruits obtained from the plant. The fruit holds tiny edible seeds. The gooseberry plant grows quickly to the 4-6 ft height. Weighing 3 to 6 grams each, this fruit is available mainly in light green color. Other color variants can also be found in other countries as well. Each variant tastes differ, from sweet to tart. These berries are a rich source of vitamins and pigment antioxidant polyphenolics. The vitamin C and antioxidants present in amla make them bitter in taste and acidic. This fruit must be added to the diet in order to get nutrients, like protein, carbs, fiber, vitamin B5, vitamin B6, vitamin C, copper, potassium and manganese.
